Great White Buffalo?

Here it is in living proof. In the Fall of 2000 I weighed 246 pounds. While in Sarawak, Borneo the local Iban people nicknamed me the Great White Buffalo. As you can see from the pictures, it is not surprising why. I ran my first marathon about eighteen months later in Vancouver of May, 2002. I was about forty pounds lighter. I'll be posting some of those pics soon. They should be a tad more flattering ;-)

Borneo 2000 The Great White Buffalo Dances
Borneo 2000 - 246 pounds of Shake and Bake
Borneo 2000 - 246 pounds of Sumo
Borneo 2000 - 246 pounds of Buffalo Thunder
Borneo 2000 - 246 pound Gulliver

This is so - Vince. He doesn't hold back, he gives you everything he has, and he apparently has no shame.

As someone who has run with Mr. Hemingson for several years, you come to expect Vince to seem a little larger than life. Even though there are fifty fewer pounds of him, I am sure his heart has grown in size. And he can still suck all the oxygen out of a room.

I've learned to step back when he speaks to avoid the sonic boom, but he offers his runners a wealth of knowledge and his endless stories on the Sunday long runs are not to be missed. He fusses over the first time marathoners like an old Hen, and despite the gruff exterior, it's obvious how much he cares about the other runners. But I think he's more like a teddy bear than a buffalo.

Larger than life is an understatement. Devours life, might be a better description. After a long run I have never seen anyone eat like Vince. It is awe inspiring. Keep running Vince!

you're crazy!!

but you weigh less than me!! Congrats on that
accomplishment..

I am at 200lbs..but I am in better shape now than in
Borneo (lifting weights and bicycling..perhaps a
couple of miles running a week, but it's not for me)..

keep up the good work---and we'll be waiting to hear
about Boston!!

Ciao

I have to agree with the Teddy Bear bit. Those photos of Vince dancing are pretty sexy. For a big guy, Vince has all the moves...

Okay, kids, settle down. I think I may have seriously underestimated the consequences and repercussions of posting these photos...

Oh sure, a guy who marathons in a skirt is going to get upset because he gets teased about his advanced inertial guidance system. Yeah, I believe you're upset...right.

Vince, no matter what you weigh you always look like you're having so much fun in your pictures. Your weight loss is inspiring, but as long as you are happy and healthy, that's the most important thing. Keep smiling!
